"I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January of 2012. They found a 4”x4”x3” mass on my right ovary (malignant). Fun, wow. Surgery to remove said mass took place about a week later, followed by 5 bouts of Chemo at PMH. I decided to pass on treatment #6 – I just had enough.
That same year (shortly after my 1st Chemo treatment), my dear dad suffered a severe stroke and nine months later passed away Dec 1st, 2012. After looking after mum for 6 months, we placed her in a long term care facility.
I think I know a little about stress and I think I have a sense about what a Cancer Warrior goes through - the "processes", the fears, anxieties, concerns, emotional "rides", physical challenges, the mind 'games', etc -- all stresses that the body really needs to manage in a healthy way. I don’t proclaim to know everything and recognize that everyone’s road is unique, but I believe I can relate.
Yoga, meditation, nutrition, elimination of toxins, taking time for myself and having fun on a regular basis have made a huge difference in my recovery.
My 2012 diagnosis was a gift and wake-up call to nurture myself and my spirit. It has opened my eyes to 'take action' towards my heart's desires and to say "yes" to that honesty today -- for we're not guaranteed tomorrow, yesterday is gone -- we only have today.
